Miura Kaigan Winter Fireworks Festival 2023

The Fireworks Festival, which is usually held in summer, will be held at the same time as ”ANA Windsurfing World Cup Yokosuka Miura” this year.
On the first day of the tournament, a total of around 3,000 fireworks will light up the night sky!

Watch from a Spectator Boat
(Cost: 500yen, Advance reservation required)

This year we are once again offering the chance to fully experience the windsurfing competition up close on a Spectator Boat!

Since windsurfing is a sport in which the race location must sometimes be changed depending on the direction of the wind, its said that it can be difficult to experience the thrills and speed of a race from land. For this reason, we offer a special Spectator Boat, so that you can experience the full ferocity of the competition up-close from the water itself.

Come watch the most elite players in the world battle for the World Cup.

There will also be a guide on-board so that even those new to the world of windsurfing can enjoy the competition (Run in Japanese only.).

・Registration is necessary. One ride costs 500 yen.
・All boats depart from Kitashitaura Fishing Port, so please come to reception (“Information” on the Miura Coast side) 30 minutes before your desired departure time in order to board a free shuttle bus that will take you to Kitashitara Fishing Port.
・Boat service will be suspended in the event of severe weather. If service is suspended, you are still responsible for all public transport costs used to get to the venue, etc.

・The Sauna Tent is FREE to experience.

・All users must use the sauna fully clothed.
・ Please don’t stay in the tent too long, so that all patrons can have a chance to enjoy it.
・We ask that those with heart issues, the infirm, those with medical conditions, injuries, or illnesses, etc., as well as those with infants, young children, and pets refrain from using the sauna tent.
We are not responsible for any burns, injuries, etc., sustained during the sauna tent experience.

SLALOM
A speedy marking battle!

• 

  “Slalom” takes place on the course where windsurfing can gain the most speed.
  The race starts at the start line on the windward side and zigzags around several marks on the leeward side to reach the finish line.
  The first marking in particular greatly determines the ranking, so battles and games are going to be fierce.
  
  In “Slalom”, the one who runs through the course the fastest is the winner. This straightforwardness of slalom is also appealing.

FIN vs FOIL

• The “Fins” are attached to the back of the board, and from the 2021 competitions, there also be a choice of “Foils” depending on the conditions.
  Foils is a hydrofoil (underwater wing) developed for windsurfing that keeps the board floating above the surface of the ocean.
  One of the features of the Foils is that can be even in light winds, and the “iQFOIL” has been officially adopted for the Paris Olympics.

Tournament SystemRule

The competition is conducted in a tournament format, with the standard eight competitors per heat (group), with the top four advancing to the next heat.

In PWA races, the top ranked competitors (or the top of the previous race) are seeded and start the second and third rounds.
The final race is held with the eight winners of the tournament (including the losers’ resurrection round), and the tournament is repeated in Races 1 and 2 as long as time permits. The final ranking is determined by the overall results.
